Thank You – Thank You – Thank You
Vox Pop Café is up and running and better than ever. We continue to have a very full and diverse calendar of events, so be sure to check our calendar often.
Vox Pop is proud to say that we now have 211 owners. That’s 211 members of this community, your friends, your neighbors. This is not your traditional small business. This small business is actually owned by this community. You are not just supporting a small, local business. You are supporting a space owned by your community. A space we hope everyone utilizes. Input is always encouraged and appreciated and I thank everyone, on behalf of us all, for your continued support.
We are working hard to generate the funds necessary to both restock the café and your support and patronage is much appreciated. We will continue to do various fundraising events to get us on the strongest financial footing possible and pay down this legacy tax debt as quickly as possible. We have two special events coming up.
May 22nd there will be a show held at Solo Kitchen and Bar located at 1504 Cortelyou Road – great music, great booze, right in the neighborhood! Donations accepted at the door and the bar has agree to give up a percentage of the full bar tab, so drink up!!
May 25th there will be a pull out all the stops Caribbean Night to Benefit Vox Pop at the beautiful Bell House located at 149 7th Street, Brooklyn. It will be a night of Caribbean styles of music from Reggae, to Haitian to Soca with DJ Ty spinning before, after and in between. The line up is HELLRAIZA, Rene Collins, Kod Ak Po and The Times. Tickets are $25 and are available at the door or through the Bell House website www.thebellhouseny.com
Please do come check out our new outdoor café space as well. Thanks to the following shareholders we have new tables and chairs and a special thank you to John Webber and Brandon Sanders for building our beautiful new bench.
Tables and chairs donated by: Richard Levitt, Michael and Kathleen Stringer, Jessi Miano, Chris Garay
We still need 5 more table and chair sets. I am offering you the opportunity to help make this possible by purchasing a table or set of chairs in your or someone else’s name. You can buy a table for $62.94, two chairs for $70.38 or a table and chairs set for $133.32. You can see the table here. In fact, you can order it on line and have it shipped directly to Vox Pop. This tangible contribution to Vox Pop will help increase our visibility, profitability and begin our journey through the next year of the evolution of Vox Pop.
Donations are still be accepted on our website and do ask Debi Ryan if you are interested in learning how you can become part of this great community space.
Thanks to you all we will continue to serve this community bringing music and art and books and spoken word and fair trade coffees and teas and great food and a sense of belonging. This community continues to be an inspiration for me and exemplifies what we can do when we all work together.

During their short time in the scene they have already headlined festivals like Get Heard Fest and will be making an appearance at the Monmouth Park Racetrack date of the 2010 Warped Tour. The band came together in January of 2008, and consisted of Marco Torriani (vocals), Joey Nester (guitar/vocals) and brothers Jon (guitar) and Matt Stolpe (drums). Bassist Donny Saraceno joined the band in October of 2009 to round out the band’s already contagiously energetic stage presence. - Vox Pop Blues Night featuring Irving Louis Lattin
- Tuesday, August 3, 2010, 8:00 pm
- Native Chicagoan Irving Louis Lattin has been playing since he was 13 years old. He grew up on the music of Blues & Gospel like, Mahalia Jackson, the Staple Singers, Muddy Waters, BB King, Motown, Memphis/Stax and the British Invasion. The list of influences are endless. He began writing songs when he was 17 and also playing piano when he turned 25. Now at the ripe old age of ??? he is still making the music he loves which is a blend of Rhythm & Blues, Pop & Funk. Irving has been actively writing songs 9 years for the organization: "Songs of Love Foundation" which writes personal (one time only) songs for sick children in hospitals all over the United States. He considers it his blessing to do this work. He has also sung & played on a string of local & national commercials for Cover Girl makeup, Chevy trucks, Pfizers pharmaceuticals (a national singing viagra spot ), Modell's sporting goods & Wrangler jeans. Irving has toured Europe, Asia, Jamaica, Puerto Rico etc. many times. He received his super-heroes license last year and is now an official super-hero receiving accolades for deeds known and unknown. Hmmm... Generally considered to be the "real thing" by his peers and such, it's best to form your own conclusions after hearing him. "I just do what I do," he says.
